Set in beautiful Hawarden village, The Old Grocery occupies a building that historically housed a butcher and grocery store (fondly remembered by Chef proprietor Rob) and has been part of Hawarden hospitality for over 30 years.

Following a short stint as a 14-year-old kitchen porter in this very building, and a chef apprenticeship 7 years later in, yes… this very building, Rob went on to discover the world. It turns out that his world is Kate and after working together for 18 years, including running two very successful businesses together, they have returned home to embark on a new albeit familiar adventure.

REOPENING!......20th May

Following the announcement today by the Welsh Government we are delighted to announce that we are to reopen on May 20th with a limited run of our tasting menus. The rule of four still applies meaning that the maximum number of people per table from mixed households is four. With this in mind, and to avoid any misunderstandings, we will only be offering tables of up to four on our online booking system which will be open from April 28th. As this has come as pleasant surprise to us all, final details of the opening menu will follow after the weekend. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.
